THE CITYWIDE SCHOOL GARDEN INITIATIVE

Grow to Learn NYC

Creating a brand and digital platform to help NYC schools grow gardens, engage communities, and inspire hands-on learning.

The Challenge

Platform Design & Educational Resource Hub

A flexible identity system and digital platform were developed to help Grow to Learn NYC establish a recognizable public presence while supporting the initiative’s educational and community-building goals.

The site was designed to balance inspiration with utility — helping schools, teachers, volunteers, and supporters quickly understand the mission, access resources, and engage with the program in meaningful ways.

From the Extensive Educational Resource Library to Grant and Application information, the online platform supports and encourages the healthy growth of the school garden community and our children’s future.

Educational Resources & Community Enablement

Providing schools and educators with practical tools, training, and guidance was a central part of the initiative.

The platform included curriculum resources, how-to content, funding information, videos, and technical guidance designed to help teachers and school communities confidently launch and sustain garden programs.

This section of the site helped turn the initiative into a more useful, actionable resource — supporting both participation and long-term success.

Community Growth & Participation

Broad community involvement was essential to the initiative’s success.

The platform was designed to support donations, partnerships, volunteer engagement, and public participation — making it easier for schools, families, organizations, and supporters to contribute in different ways.

This helped position Grow to Learn NYC not just as an educational resource, but as a growing citywide network built through collective involvement.

Results & Impact

Grow to Learn NYC has helped support a network of more than 745 schools across all five boroughs, contributing to a broader movement that now reaches 66,000 children each year through programs that connect young people with the natural environment.

By combining branding, education, digital resources, and community participation into a unified platform, the project helped create a more accessible and scalable foundation for long-term impact.
